As the summer wraps up many students will be hitting the stores to pick up new devices for the upcoming Semester. Here at NAU IT, we have many student workers who have a plethora of suggestions for your tech-savvy shopping list. While some of these devices may intersect with one another we have sorted them into two different categories:

For Your Dorm:

  • Non-Wifi LED Lights

Need some lightweight decor that makes your room more comfortable? Invest in some stick-on LED lights, they leave no damage on your dorm walls and are easy to remove!

  • TV

While it may be hard to fit, many students end up purchasing a tv to relax in their free time. A 32” fits most desks and many are offered with a screw-on and screw-off stand.

  • Gaming Console

What’s a TV without a gaming console? Gaming consoles are not only for video games but they are also capable of housing streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu!

  • Voice-Activated Assistant

Voice activate assistants are your best friend in college. They have the capability of waking you up, reminding you about homework, telling you the weather before you go out, and they help you relax with some music at the end of the day.

  • Printer

While NAU offers their printers one can bring one if they truly need it. Having a personal printer will be amazing to have instead of waiting in line for the public printer early in the morning.

  • Air Purifier

When the windows shut and the heaters turn on it can be difficult to avoid humidity and dust within the dorms. A purifier can help clear the air as well as your lungs!

  • Extension cords

Extension cords are a helpful way to fit all of your device’s wires without taking over your roommate’s outlets on their side of the room.

  • Ethernet cable

Many students are using the NAU wifi, to ensure that your wifi works smoothly try to bring an Ethernet cable! Make sure to check the Cline Library to see if they are giving out any cables for free.

For School:

  • Computer

After remote learning, most may have a personal computer but it never hurts to list this! It is extremely important to possess a laptop to possess in between classes for your notes, agenda, and assignments.

  • Tablet

Is a laptop too bulky for your backpack? Too expensive? Try a tablet! These lightweight devices allow you to take quick efficient apps and almost all of them have keyboard accessories that you can purchase online!

  • Portable charger

You never know when you will need it but you’ll want it when you require your dying phone for studying, your class schedule, or finding your way around campus. Secure your charge and invest in a portable charger!

  • Camera

While it is not always necessary to have a camera dependent on your degree, it is extremely helpful for video assignments or NAU electives! It also makes for a great hobby.

  • Wireless earbuds

Need to take a call in-between classes, trying to listen to lecture recordings in the library? Wireless earbuds make these tasks easy and comfortable!

  • Smartwatch

Perfect for homework reminders, class alarms, and fitness tracking!

  • Smartpen

A smartpen is a fairly new and useful tool for note-taking. As in-person classes begin to commence having technology like this will prove to be very useful during the transition.

  • 10 ft phone charger

When you find yourself in a public setting where many students are utilizing power outlets, it is important to have a long charger in order for it to reach where you are sitting.

  • Photo storage/External hard drive

During the school year, you tend to take a lot of photos and gain an extensive amount of new files, investing in a photo storage or external hard drive allows you to preserve these files without taking up all of your device’s storage.
