As Summer comes to a close, NAU ITS wants to provide you with one more experience, Camp! The Adobe Summer Camp is a guide that provides general information about 5 Adobe apps. Once you read through the information in this blog and check out the resources for each one, you can start your personal training. Your training now allows you to start documenting your experience with these tools on your resume. The 5 categories are listed in order from less challenging to very challenging, that way you are prepared for the intensity of each app when you go to independently try them. What are you waiting for, get it started!
“Lightroom is the cloud-based service that gives you everything you need to create, edit, organize, store, and share your photos across any device.”
Unlike Photoshop, Lightroom has a sole focus on photography. While it seems simple there are additional features that beginners aren’t aware of that are extremely beneficial. With Lightroom, you can connect your camera during a live shoot and you can instantly see the shot you have captured. Focus on learning how to navigate your library and the editing panels on each side that way you can discover all the features available to you! Here is an example of the layout:

“From photo editing and compositing to digital painting, animation, and graphic design — you can do it all in Photoshop. Bring ideas to life across desktop and iPad.”
Photoshop has the capability of performing tasks that are done on Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Illustrator. One can edit photos, make logos, and create collages. It is recommended to start learning Photoshop before the other advanced apps because it takes elements from each one and allows the user to become more familiar with the tools and layout. Here is a screenshot of how the toolbars look below:

“The industry-standard vector graphics software lets you create everything from web and mobile graphics to logos, icons, book illustrations, product packaging, and billboards. And now, experience the freedom and flexibility of Illustrator across desktop and iPad.”
Here at NAU ITS, we use Illustrator as our primary tool for graphics. Graphic such as Social Media Templates, Zoom Backgrounds, The Annual Report, and more! With Illustrator, the tools offered are exponentially increased when compared to photoshop. Because of this, it can be confusing. Illustrator is commonly used for graphics because it vectorized images. A vector image can be resizable without the worry of pixelation and allows an increased amount of rasterization flexibility for designers. Here is an example of the layout:

“Adobe InDesign is the industry-leading layout and page design software for print and digital media. Create beautiful graphic designs with typography from the world’s top foundries and imagery from Adobe Stock. InDesign has everything you need to create and publish books, digital magazines, eBooks, posters, interactive PDFs, and more.”
To simplify the purpose of Indesign it essentially takes the graphics made in the previously made programs and organizes them in a design document. Essentially Indesign is essential for physical and digital presentations as well as portfolios. An employer is interested in the unique document you can make through Indesign instead of the typical template offered on google docs. The layout and tools may seem inverted at times so it is very important to take time to study. One of the primary difficulties involves scaling images because 2 borders are attached, one for the shape of the image and one for the image itself. Confusing? We understand. Here is an example of the layout, check it out:

“Create cinematic movie titles, intros, and transitions. Remove an object from a clip. Start a fire or make it rain. Animate a logo or character. Even navigate and design in a 3D space.”
Finally, we come to one of the most advanced Adobe apps, After Effects. NAU iTS primarily uses After Effects for TechTidBits. This app is not only used for the animation of text and shapes but other special effects as well. An example can be seen in the layout screenshot below.
We have attached an introductory tutorial on how to use After Effects, make sure to take your time watching tutorials for this one because it can be overwhelming! https://youtu.be/qqKQf_Mb4S8
