Do you ever feel like you have so much to say but don’t know how to get your word out there? Start a podcast! NAU ITS has a podcast to help our Lumberjack community connect with us more. We are available on Youtube and Spotify. Here are some tips on getting started that we found helpful:
Outline a Script
- It might be easier to have guests on the podcast so that it makes talking feel more natural. If you choose to podcast solo or with guests make sure to plan your talking points ahead of time.
- This will ensure you have interesting ideas to talk about and it gives everyone time to think about what they want to say.
- Talking points make the conversation flow without sounding too forced.
Create a brand for yourself
- What can your audience expect to hear from you? Will you be giving lifestyle advice? School advice? Financial advice? Or something else?
- Create a logo for your podcast and stick with a color scheme. This will help differentiate yourself from other podcasts.
- Artwork and a logo can all be created for free on Canva or Picsart.
Buy a Microphone
- Your audio is so important when it comes to podcasting, therefore it’s worthwhile to invest in a microphone. There are many microphones on Amazon under $50 to help get you started on your podcasting journey.
Video Chat Room
- Create a video chat room that allows you to record the video chat.
- Zoom will download the video and audio files once you start recording. These files can then be trimmed and edited to your liking on something like iMovie.
- Squadcast is another great alternative to Zoom because it aims to provide studio quality recordings. However, you have to pay a monthly fee for this.
Create a Buzzsprout account
- This will provide you with an RSS Feed that is needed to get your podcast listed on other directories such as Apple Podcast and Spotify.
- Upload your audio on here and wait a couple of hours before it’s uploaded to the directories.
- Buzzsprout has free and paid plans that you can check out here.
Have Social Media Accounts Designated for your Podcast
- Youtube: All your episodes can be uploaded on here where users can decide if they want to watch the video with audio or just tune in with audio only.
- Instagram, Twitter, Facebook: Use these platforms to promote your podcast.
