Generation Z was essentially born with technology in their hands. While this tech-savvy generation may have the cyber world all figured out, NAU ITS some recommendations for college students (especially first year Lumberjacks).
1. NAUgo
- While we are being totally NOT biased our first app recommendation is to download NAUgo for all the on-campus updates. With NAUgo students can complete their Daily HealthCheck, check occupancy levels in dining halls, track the bus routes, and so much more!

2. NAU SAFE
- NAU students can keep up with all of the safety updates happening at whichever NAU campus they’re at, even abroad! NAU SAFE allows students to request a safety escort, send your location in real-time to a friend so they can watch you as you walk to your destination, and access the campus emergency phones.

3. Starship
- To avoid crowded lines NAU students, staff, and faculty can download the Starship app and have food delivered to your location on campus via food delivery robots. This is great for the cold winters too! There is a small delivery fee but it’s still cheaper than off-campus food delivery services. NAU students with a meal plan can even use Dining Dollars to order food on Starship!

4. Lyft
- Many college freshmen are encouraged to not bring their cars to campus, so a ride-share app is a must! Lyft has many discounts for NAU students where their first 4 rides are $5 off depending on the promo code active at the time. Even if students have a car it’s recommended to have a ride-share app setup incase of emergencies.

5. Venmo
- Living with roommates can be a lot of fun, and students might find themselves needing to split expenses. Venmo is an easy way to send money to each other.

6. Blackboard
- If students want to stay updated on their assignments and grades at NAU then Blackboard is the way to go. Lumberjacks will get updated on when new assignments are posted or when their assignments have been graded.

7. Life360
- Study sessions can run late sometimes and we think it’s safe if students share their location with trusted friends. Life360 has an “SOS” feature where you can push the button and it tells the people you are sharing your location that you feel unsafe. It has real-time updates on your location and the app will notify your friends when you arrive at their home or when they arrive at yours.

8. Google Photos
- College is about making memories! However, we know that all of the memories (or pictures of notes and class lectures) can start to clutter storage space on phones. Google Photos is set up through Gmail and has unlimited storage. The app will have access to your phone camera roll and they will upload automatically to your Google Photos. As long as you have access to the same email then you can access your photos. We recommend using a personal account instead of a student account for this.

9. Handshake
- Finding jobs in a college town can be tricky! Thankfully, all the on-campus job listings at NAU are uploaded on Handshake. Handshake will match you to jobs based on your major, GPA, and school year. On-campus jobs provide a lot of flexibility with student work schedules, so make sure you don’t miss out!

10. Quizlet
- Midterms and finals will creep up on students and we suggest making study guides and flashcards on Quizlet. With Quizlet Lumberjacks can study anywhere and anytime!
