Every college student should strive to build their resume every chance they get. Students will want to have a resume to ensure they get a part-time job during college, when looking for internships, and when graduating and looking for a full-time job. Resumes will look different depending on each major. For example, a graphic design student will most likely have a resume that’s more artistic, in comparison to a business major. Take our tips with a grain of salt and use them as you see fit!
Use a bit of color
- As mentioned before, this may vary depending on the job you are applying for. However, even a little bit of color may make you stand out from the crowd.
- This resume shows a bit of color that isn’t distracting and it makes it more interesting.
Make sure that it is easy to read
- Don’t make your potential employer work to find your information on your resume. Add sub headings that will guide the reader. However, make sure that the sub headings are not larger than your name.
- Make your contact information easy to find.
- Make your fonts easy to read and professional.
- This resume is an example of fonts that are unprofessional and the format is hard to follow.
- The border around the resume is also very distracting and takes away from the content.
Professionalism
- Double check that you don’t have any spelling or grammar mistakes in your resume.
- If you need to write a cover letter, ensure that it matches your resume style and color.
- Ensure that your lining, spacing, and fonts are consistent throughout your resume. This gives it a cleaner look.
