We want to urge our Lumberjack community to enroll in Two-Step Verification. Enrolling in Two-Step Verification adds an extra layer of security to your NAU account. Enroll here and check out our other article for a step by step guide on how to enroll. Here are some cyber security facts you may not know to help convince you to enroll in Two-Step.

  1. There is a cybersecurity attack every 39 seconds.
  2. 1/4 people will be a victim of a cyberattack
  3. 9.7 million healthcare records were compromised in September 2020 alone.
  4. Approximately $6 trillion is expected to be spent globally on cybersecurity by the end of this year.
  5. More than 77% of organizations do not have a Cyber Security Incident Response plan.
  6. An estimated 54% of companies say they have experienced one or more cyber attacks in the last 12 months.
  7. The FBI reported a 300% increase in the number of cybercrime cases during COVID-19.
  8. Most companies take nearly 6 months to detect a data breach, even major ones. Information such as passwords, credit card details, and social security numbers may already be compromised by the time you’re notified.
  9. As a result of 5G increasing the bandwidth of connected devices, IoT devices will become more vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
  • This is because networks are unprotected so when connecting to bluetooth or WiFi on public networks (like coffee shops or places with free WiFi) your information is more vulnerable.
  • To secure your accounts not only is it important to enroll in Two-Step, but connect to a VPN.

10. 1 in 13 web requests lead to malware.
